WCP Premier West Round Up
Tuesday 8th September
Walter C Parson Cup: Millbrook bowed out of the league cup after going down 0-2 away at East division side Okehampton Argyle. The hosts scored twice in the second half through Sam Greaves and Dom Harnell to book a 2nd round place.
Premier West: Just one league game this midweek, but it had pretty well everything as Helston Athletic and Camelford drew 3-3 at Kellaway Park. The visitors raced into an early two goal lead through Ollie Taylor and Kyle Flew but the hosts battled back to lead 3-2 after efforts from Ben Waters, Josh Daniels and an own goal, but a second Kyle Flew goal ensured a share of the points.
Saturday 5th September
Premier West: Seven games today but the top of the hardly changed as the first four clubs all played, and all recorded wins, to pull clear of the chasing pack. Leaders Sticker had their 2nd win in a week, but had to come from behind to win 3-1 away at Hayle who led through Noah Tanner only for Sticker to respond with two from Evan Tresidder and one from Connor Cooke. St Austell in 2nd pace had a narrow 2-1 win at home to Mousehole with James Ward and Liam Eddy on target at Poltair, Penzance in third hosted St Mawgan for the first time ever and won 2-0 with Josh Turner and player/boss Mark Vercesi finding the net in front of nearly 200 at Penlee Park. Callington Town round out the top four and they were the days highest scorers with a 5-0 win at home to Wendron United with Finn Harrison bagging the days only hat-trick.
Elsewhere Wadebridge Town are back to winning ways as Leo Best and Dan O’Hara scored in a 2-0 win at home to Dobwalls and at Pennygillam, Launceston had a second Saturday running home win with a 1-0 success over Helston Athletic. One game ended all square as Bude Town and Millbrook shared the spoils after a 2-2 draw in North Cornwall.
Tuesday 1st September
Premier West: Three games this evening in West with the top-scorers being Sticker who bounced back from their defeat of the season at the weekend in some style with a 5-0 win at home to Helston Athletic. Josh Penrose scored twice along with Ethan Skyba, Harvey Hann and Connor Cooke. Penzance had a narrow but important win to maintain their unbeaten start as they won 1-0 away at near rivals Wendron United with Jacob Trudgeon scoring the games only goal. Hayle who had suffered back to back defeats got themselves back to winning ways with a 2-0 home win over a Falmouth Town side who had previously only lost once. First half goals from Rohan Bennetts and Jordan Knuckley for the hosts.
Saturday 29th August
Premier West: Seven games played today as the opening month of the season was completed and amongst the results one team picked up a first win, and another a first defeat.
Previous leaders Sticker who had won 4 on the trot were beaten 1-0 away at Camelford who bounced back from recent defeats thanks to the games only goal scored by Piotr Maciejewski. Launceston were able to collect their first win of the campaign as they defeated Hayle 2-0 at Pennygillam. They were great full to Howie Evans for saving a first half Curtis Smith penalty and then took full advantage with two second half goals from Louis Taylor.
The new leaders are St Austell who celebrated the return to Poltair Park after significant ground issues with a 2-0 win over Dobwalls in front of a crowd of 190. Scorers were Callum McGhee and veteran Liam Eddy. Bude Town had Rio Anderson scoring twice as they won 4-1 away at Wadebridge Town and have now won 3 of their 4 opening games.
The remaining three fixtures all saw identical 4-0 wins, or 4-0 defeats, with Falmouth Town beating new boys St Mawgan at Bickland Park, Holsworthy had a Jedd Peschke brace amongst their scorers as they beat Mousehole at Upcott Field and Callington Town had an Alex Jacob hat-trick to help them to their 4-0 win at Millbrook.
Wednesday 26th August
Premier West: Just the one game this evening but it allowed Callington Town to jump three places to 4th in the table after a 4-0 home win over Camelford. The hosts scored twice through Harvey Barrett with Connor Pritchard and Dan Alford also finding the target.
Tuesday 25th August
Premier West: A busy night of six Premier West games which saw three sides maintain their unbeaten starts to the season. Sticker remain top and the early season pace-setters with a 4th win in 4 outings as they beat Wendron United 5-0 at home. Evan Tresidder who scored a a hat-trick at the weekend went one better with four of the goals tonight with Connor Cooke grabbing the fifth. St Austell moved onto 11 points after a narrow 1-0 win away at Helston Athletic whilst 296 were at Penlee Park to see Penzance move onto 10 points after a 4-0 win over a Hayle side losing for the first time. The Magpies had Ben Palmer, Silas Sullivan, Wade Brown and Josh Turner on target.
Elsewhere Millbrook gained their first win, and that means every club has at least a point on the board, as a Josh Payne goal gave them a 1-0 win at home to Wadebridge Town with Jenkins Park also hosting its first game under the new LED floodlights. Bude Town won for the second time in a week with a 2-0 win on the road at Dobwalls with Rio Anderson and Harry Hopcroft netting and finally Holsworthy had a late winner as they won their cross Tamar derby 2-1 at Launceston. Gavin Carter and Jedd Pesche netting for the visitors.
Saturday 22nd August
Premier West: For the first time this season we had a full programme of eight West games with only Helston, as the odd 17th team, inactive. Two sides picked up first wins and two suffered maiden defeats. Bude Town are off the mark in style as they beat previously unbeaten Camelford 3-0 with two goals from debutant Ray Spear and a penalty Harry Hopcroft with Mousehole also off the mark as they won 2-0 away at Wendron United. As well as Camelford, Callington Town suffered their first reversal as they went down 3-2 away at Falmouth Town who scored through Kian Thomas, Alex Wharton and Taylor Packenas.
Joining Falmouth Town on 9 points are Sticker who made it 3 wins from 3 outings with a 3-0 victory away at Millbrook with debutant Ewan Tresidder bagging a hat-trick for his new team. Wadebridge Town celebrated the official return of Paul Rowe to the managers position with a 4-0 win at home to Launceston with Jacob Rowe scoring twice along with Sam Wickins and Joe Munday. Penzance remain undefeated after a 3-1 win away at Dobwalls with Josh Turner scoring twice for the Cornish Magpies and the Devon Magpies, Holsworthy, got back to winning ways with a 3-0 success from a first trip to St Mawgan with strikes from Gavin Carter, Jack Japes and Josh Down and one game ended all square as Hayle and St Austell drew 1-1 wit Curtis Smith fort the hosts and Tom Payne for the visiting Lilly-whites.
Wednesday 19th August
Premier West: Just the one West division fixture this season and that took place at the furthest West ground, Trungle Parc, where Mousehole hosted Falmouth Town Reserves. The home sides slow start to the season continued with the visitors winning 4-0 and recording a second win in three outings this season.
Tuesday 18th August
Premier West: Penzance picked up a first league win of the season tonight in some style with a 5-1 win at home to Helston Athletic. In front of a crowd of 267 at Penlee Park, the match was also the first to be played beneath the new LED floodlights. Josh Turner scored the first two goals and joining him with a brace was Ben Palmer with Charlie Willis completing the scoring for the hosts before the visitors grabbed a consolation.
Saturday 15th August
FA Vase Round Up: Seventeen league clubs were in action this afternoon across twelve ties, all trying to join a further eight clubs who had received byes to the next round. Seven sides were victorious with two gaining wins against teams from other leagues. Bridport had a 2-0 win over Folland Sports of the Wessex League at St Marys where Callum Arnold opened the scoring whilst Ilminster Town beat Western League side Wellington 1-0 at home with Josh Phillips scoring the all important goal. Three other East sides went through with wins over West opponents with Cullompton Rangers top scoring as they thrashed Helston Athletic 7-0 at Speeds Meadow with both Jordan Ewing and Steve Goss scoring twice. Torridgeside had a comfortable 5-1 win from their long trip to Mousehole and Newton Abbot Spurs also won on the road as Saul Vanes and Harry Page gave them a 2-0 win at Bude Town. Two West sides progressed with Sticker having Cameron Bidgood on target to achieve a 1-0 win away at Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police and Wendron United edged the all West affair as they won 3-2 away at Wadebridge Town. Departing the Vase were Callington Town who had 250 watching the local derby with Tavistock, Teignmouth were only denied a penalty shoot out by an injury time offside flag as they lost 1-2 at Ivybridge Town whilst Penzance went down 0-3 at home to Bridgwater United, Launceston lost by the same score at St Blazey and Bishops Lydeard went out 5-1 away at Torpoint Athletic.
Premier West: Four league games were played today with Hayle being the final side to start the season, and in their first ever Home Step 6 fixture they were soon off the mark with a 3-0 win at home to Millbrook. Falmouth Town picked up their first points of the season with a 2-1 win over Holsworthy at Bickland Park. St Austell were party poopers as St Mawgan staged their first home game with the visitors winning 3-1 with two late goals from young Callum Bassett, whilst Camelford remain 100% as they beat Dobwalls 2-1 with Liam Higgins and Kyle Flew scoring for the Camels and Eli Causon replying for the visitors.
Wednesday 12th August
Premier West: Two games in West tonight including a game at Bude Town where the hosts were playing their first game of the season with Callington Town the visitors. Callington ran out 3-2 victors with goals from Finn Harrison, Alex Jacob and Calum Courts but the hosts almost grabbed a share of the spoils as they replied through Dylan Morgan and a Harry Hopcroft penalty. Holsworthy picked up their first win of the season as they edged a 1-0 win at home to Millbrook with the all important goal coming through Ben Sharpe.
Tuesday 11th August
Premier West: With Board-Masters last weekend a number of sides were able to start their seasons tonight with a busy night of six games in the division. Only one side can claim to have played two and Won two, and that is Sticker who followed up Friday nights win with a 2-0 success at home to Falmouth Town with goals from Connor Cooke and Cam Bidgood. Two sides played and won their opening games with Helston Athletic starting life back in the league in fine style with a 6-1 win at home to Wendron United. Ketan Cooper scored twice along with Harry Morton, Josh Daniels, Rocco Wilson and Toby Griggs all scoring. Camelford also started the season with a win as they inflicted a first step 6 defeat on St Mawgan with a 2-0 win at Trefrew thanks to goals from Kenley Dyson and Liam Higgins.
Wadebridge Town had quite the turn around in fortunes, having lost 1-6 at the weekend and replaced the manager with the returning Paul Rowe they are off the mark with a 3-2 win at home to Mousehole with a dramatic ending that saw a pause for floodlight failure and late goals from both sides. The Bridgers had Jacob Rowe scoring twice and Freddie Foster once with the visitors replying through Victor Mallory and an own goal. Two games ended in draws, at Penlee Park a highest attendance of the season so far, 327, saw Penzance and St Austell draw 1-1. Josh Turner had fired the Magpies into the lead with the visitors replying through Rubin Wilson. The highest scoring draw of the season so far, came at Lantoom Park where Dobwalls and Launceston shared six goals in a thrilling 3-3 score draw.
Saturday 8th August
Premier West: The first Saturday saw a reduced programme as the annual Board-Masters festival again caused clubs to request the day off, but four matches were still played and history was made by St Mawgan who not only played their first ever Step 6 match, but recorded a fine 3-1 win away at a Mousehole side who were playing in the Southern League just three months ago. Scorers for St Mawgan were Tom Barnett and a brace from Craig Allen.
St Austell on their return to Step 6, started with a hard fought 2-0 win away at Holsworthy with veteran Neil Slateford scoring both of the lilly-whites goals. Wendron United have had a summer of rebuilding a squad but were thrilled to get off to a winning start with a 2-1 success at Millbrook and the only home side to taste victory were Callington Town who came from behind to beat Dobwalls 4-1 at Marshfield Park with the hosts scoring through Harvey Bennett, Callum Courts, Huck Enticknap and an own goal which cancelled out Luke Gales opener for the visitors.
Friday 7th August
Premier West: The season got underway with a Friday night match as Sticker hosted Wadebridge Town at Burngullow in front of a good sized crowd. The honour of the first goal of the new season fell to Soloman Wilson as he fired the hosts in front from a 4th minute penalty kick, indeed Wilson went on to claim the first hat-trick of the season and ended the night with 4 of his teams goals along with Eli Evans and debutant Cameron Bidgood. Wadebridge had chances of their own and were able to get on the score-sheet through Ben Colquhoun.
